Astrology Counselling Sessions

Sometimes we need to unravel our stories just to find out that who we really are is beyond stories.

When I first seriously encountered astrology, beyond the superficial facade of sun sign columns, I had just turned 40.  I threw myself into studying everything on the subject I could get my hands upon, not knowing why, just following an undeniable urge to understand more. More than a  decade later, I am still at it, but now I understand I’ll never be done.  It always felt like I had known the ancient art from before somehow, and there was a strong sense of recognition with this wise, inclusive and magical tool for understanding the soul, the personality, the life purpose.  But more importantly, as I have grown and changed, I have seen my understanding and use of astrology become more refined and subtle.  Now I see its miraculous ability to guide us to the truth of who we are beyond the person, life “purpose”, personal desires and aversions, the identity, the stories and, paradoxically, even the birth chart.

What is Astrology?

Wikipedia explains astrology as “the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial objects as a means for divining information about human affairs and terrestrial events.

Astrology is a tool for self-enquiry.  In the beginning it serves to help us understand purpose, strengths and challenges, as well as act as a guide for the seasonal energies at any point in time in life.   The birth chart is a blueprint for the life, and the transits indicate the experiences and conditions that are unfolding at any given point during the life.  It offers a level of objectivity and understanding that is so often lost in the drama and intensity of our stories about our lives.

With understanding and detachment comes compassion, acceptance, forgiveness and the ability to access our intuitive wisdom.  Self-knowledge, understanding and awareness are power – the power to respond to life instead of reacting to it; the power to choose to be the protagonist in our own lives, instead of mistakenly believing we are the victim.

If the wisdom contained in the words inscribed over the entrance to the temple at Delphi, “Know Thyself” is indeed the truth, then astrology is an oracle, a divinatory tool, for doing just that.  It is one of a myriad ways in which we are offered the opportunity to wake up to our true and unchanging nature.  I have found it to be valuable beyond expectation, and, if it resonates with you, perhaps you will too.

“We are born at a given moment, in a given place and, like vintage years of wine, we have the qualities of the year and of the season of which we are born. Astrology does not lay claim to anything more.”

—Carl Jung

About Astrology Guidance Sessions

What to expect from a session?

Using your birth chart as the guide, I like to start with understanding why you are having a reading and what you would like to gain from the experience.  There is so much information in a chart that I find it useful to get specific about what’s brought you here, and how you may best be served and guided in tapping into your own wisdom.   The birth chart serves as a map, and, through interpretation, offers wisdom, insights and guidance that support your soul’s intention.  The transits and progressions show the energies you are currently dealing with, which, when revealed, so often validate and strengthen intuitive knowings and urges that are arising now.

While predictive astrology can point to the flavour of life’s entanglements, it cannot ascertain exactly what form they will take or how we will respond.  It’s helpful to remember that astrologers are neither fortune-tellers or psychics, and your participation in the reading is important – ultimately a reading is a conversation between you and your chart with the astrologer acting as an interpreter.  According to ancient astrologers, the purpose of studying the planets and how they reflect events and experiences, was to better be able to find our centre, not to fall into the trap of increasing anxiety or dependence on external factors.  They considered fate and fortune to be neither good or bad, but all an illusion, an beginningless, endless wheel of things coming to be and passing away.  When we can see the illusion clearly, when we can observe our stories instead of being lost in them, we are freed up from anxiety about the future and pain from the past, and can begin to settle into the wisdom of our true nature which is eternal, ever-present and unchanging.

So often, it’s not that we don’t know what to do, but more that we doubt our own wisdom.  Having a safe place in which to express these ideas, explore the various aspects of yourself that perhaps haven’t been allowed acknowledgement, and being validated in what you know to be true at the deepest level, is healing for all of us.  Oftentimes readings takes unexpected turns, and we may spend less time actually discussing your chart, but rather what needs to come up.  Sometime all the chart does is open a door.  And that’s OK.

One reading may be perfect for you and feel complete.  Or you may want to take it further, whether the purpose is to understand your chart or astrology better, or to get an update on the current energies.  There is an endless source of guidance and information in a chart, and you can take your journey with astrology as far as you like.

What information is needed to draw up a birth chart?

  • an accurate birth time
  • birth date
  • birth city
  • current city

Sometimes a chart is changed by the birth time being out by even a couple of minutes.   A reading can be done without an accurate birth time, but certain information and nuances will not be available.  If you don’t have an accurate birth time I recommend:

  • checking your birth certificate if you live in a country where birth times are included.
  • contacting the hospital where you were born to see if they have a record of your birth time.
  • talking to family to get an idea of at least what part of the day you were born during.
  • It is possible to ascertain an accurate birth time through muscle testing by a kinesiologist, as the memory is stored in our bodies’ cells.

What else might you need to know?

  • Sessions take between 90 minutes and 2 hours
  • They are done online using Zoom, and an audio recording is provided
  • International payments are handled through a secure PayFast online payment platform

“I received a life-changing astrological reading from the extraordinarily talented Wendy Beresford some years ago.  It was comprehensive, insightful and continues to help me understand my life and my soul journey even today.  Wendy’s ability to really peel away the many layers of the charts was not only relevant but there is a much deeper sense of knowing and intuition in what Wendy offers.  I will remain eternally grateful to Wendy for the insights that she brought to my life.”

“In December 2012 I found myself looking for some kind of foundation from which to manage my life. I was sure about some things but completely flailing in others. I approached you for a reading and wasn’t altogether sure what to expect. What I got was deep and practical information about how I had reached that point in this lifetime, and what I needed to do to move forward with success (which in some cases meant I needed to fail). I have recently revisited the information you provided me and have been reminded about instances in which I need to do things differently in order to find my way again on my journey. I am so grateful for you in my life and I think it’s time for an astrological update!!”

“I have had a number of astrology readings with Wendy over the years and I have the deepest awe and respect for her skill and intuitive ability.

She has a deep understanding of the human psyche and is compassionate and wise. Her knowledge of astrology goes beyond textbook. She is able to feel into a chart, extract the essence and make the most meaningful connections. So much of what she shared during the readings resonated in my being and allowed me a clearer understanding of my thoughts, behaviours and patterns. Astrology is truly a blueprint of a person and Wendy has an amazing ability not only to read and understand the chart, but her wisdom and guidance support and encourage an unfolding of the Self.”
